“Atchie” Lillian Atlas Biddix Benton, our beloved sister, aunt, and friend, went home to be with her Lord on September 22, 2026.

Atchie was born on May 12, 1939, to the late Stacy and Ruth Hogan Biddix. She was one of nine children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Lucy Hall, E.J. Biddix, Forrest Biddix, Agnes Burleson, and Wendell Biddix.; and her nieces and nephews, Sue Waycaster Gary Burleson, Jim Burleson, Carl Burleson, and Anthony McKinney.

Left to cherish her memory are her sisters and brother, Faye Wise, Wallen “Bud” Biddix, and Linda McKinney, all of Spruce Pine. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews who were like children to her: Nora McKinney, Nelson Hall, John Hall, Melanie Murphy, Myron Hall, Alice McKinney, Keith Biddix, Elaine Priesmeyer, Frances Henline, Joe Biddix, Amanda Storie, Marty Wise, Ken Wise, Jeff Biddix, Greg Biddix, Mark McKinney, Rocky McKinney, Rob Biddix, and Josh Biddix; as well as a special great-great-nephew, Ryker McKinney.

Atchie was employed throughout her career at Hampshire Hosiery, American Thread, and Henredon Furniture. She had a giving heart and devoted many years of service to her community as a volunteer with Altapass Fire Department, Parkway Fire and Rescue, and Hospice of the Blue Ridge. She was a faithful member of Altapass Church of God, where she served as a choir leader.

Lovingly known as “Atchie” by her family, she cherished her family dearly. She never met a stranger and was blessed with many wonderful friendships throughout her life. She loved to laugh, have fun, and make others feel welcome. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She also loved singing, playing her guitar, and mandolin. Her kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit touched the lives of many. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The family extends a special thank-you to the staff of The Greens and Hospice of the Blue Ridge. Your compassion, care, concern, and faithful attention to Atchie are deeply appreciated. A special remembrance is also extended to her friend and roommate, Jo Ann Hicks, for the companionship and friendship she shared with Atchie.

A service to celebrate Atchie life will be held at Altapass Church of God on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. The service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Cameron Smith, Rev. Steve Davis, and Rev. John Hall officiating. Interment will follow the service at McKinney Gap Cemetery.
