Obituary

Frank ‘Astor’ Watson, age 81, of Cane Creek Road in Bakersville, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026 at his home. 

Born on January 19, 1945 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Elbert D. and Lizzy Dellinger Watson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters; Nancy Ledford and Barbara Carpenter, two brothers; Bruce and Troy Watson and his oldest son; Tony Randall Watson. 

Astor was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a deacon and faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Bakersville. He loved the Lord and his family. 

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of sixty years; Betty Sue Pitman Watson, his daughter; Kim and husband Derek DuFour, his son; Tim and wife Vicki Watson, grandson; Ty Watson, granddaughter; Tori and husband, Jeb Silver, great grandson; Guy Elias Silver, his sisters; Lina Wise of Newland, Linda Pitman of Marion and Ruth Phillips of Bakersville, and his brother; Dana Watson of Newland and Ronnie Watson of Bakersville. 

Funeral services for Astor Watson will be Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Watson officiating. Interment will be in the Cane Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church.
