L.G. Hicks, age 92, of Red Bud Lane, the Franklintown Community in Spruce Pine, entered his Heavenly home on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.

Born on March 8, 1934 in Avery County, he was the eldest child of the late Phelix and Ethel Calhoun Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Christine McKinney Hicks who passed away in 2017. Also preceding him in death was his son; Keith Hicks, his brothers; Bill and Joe Hicks, his sister-in-law; Pat Hicks, and a brother-in-law; Willard Frazier.

L.G. was a member of the Burleson's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, was ordained as a deacon at age twenty-seven and had served there as a deacon for sixty-five years. He loved his church and church family; but, most of all he loved his Savior Jesus Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, watching Carolina Tar Heel basketball, traveling and exploring the coastline of the eastern U.S. He will be remembered as a loving gentle man and was loved by many and will truly be missed.

Left to cherish his memories are his sons; Jeff Hicks and wife, Annette and Mark Hicks and wife, Debbie, his sister; Barbara Frazier, his sister-in-law; Ella Mae Hicks, his grandchildren; Scott (Amber) Hicks, Dusty (Emily) Hicks, Cody (Jessica) Hicks, Zack Hicks and Heather Hawkins, Matthan (Alisha) Hicks, his great grandchildren; Eil, Ayden Hicks, Urijah, Aubree, Iyla Hicks, Ryder, Kyler Hicks, Alivia Mattilyn Hicks and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a special 'Thank You' to the Staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge and a very special 'Thank You' to Samantha McIntosh (Sam) who he loved and thought the world of.

The funeral service for L.G. Hicks will be on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Burleson's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev's. Arthur Buchanan and Scott Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Burleson's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Harris Memorial Cemetery.
