Linda Ann Gray Nelson, age 81, of Nelson Road in Newland, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville.

Born on August 28, 1945 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late David and Louise Gray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Nelson who passed away in 2001. She was also preceded in death by a son; Steve Nelson, her brothers; Raymond Gray and Ralph Gray and her sisters; Madelene Rash and Janice Winters.

For years she loved working with her son, Steve in his body shop. She loved working in her flowers. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting and was a wonderful cook that was known to make the best chicken and dumplings.

Left to cherish her memories are her son; Mike Nelson and wife, Jackie, her brother; David Gray; her grandchildren; Shane Nelson, Sierra Nelson, Brent Nelson, Rebecca Smith, Amber Hicks, Makayla McCannless and Bryan Banner, and a number of great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm at Newland Church of Christ. Funeral services for Linda Nelson will be on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 3:30 pm at Newland Church of Jesus Christ with Brother Dave Atkins officiating. Interment will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery.
