Obituary

Louise Wilson Hollifield, age 101, of Cane Creek Road in Fairview, NC, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Fleshers Fairview Healthcare. Born on June 15,1925 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Kirk George Wilson and the late Annie McKinney Wilson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hollifield who passed away in 1970, and her daughter Geraldine Alexander in 2018. Also, preceding her in death were her brothers, Paul and Glenn Wilson and sister; Lillian Collis.

She is survived by daughter, Debbie Gardner (husband Tim Gardner); granddaughters Sarah Presley, Molly Fox (husband Kenan Fox); great grandchildren, Avarie Presley, Andi Presley, Aubree Fox, and Lawson Fox. Her family also included many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

After leaving Mitchell County, Fred and Louise moved to Biltmore, and later to Fairview, NC in 1960. She was a devout Christian woman who loved her family and friends wholeheartedly. She was a wonderful housewife and mother. Outside of spending time with family and friends, her favorite pastimes included crocheting blankets, crafting, cooking & baking, and trips to the beach.

Her sweet gentle soul and her quick wit will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends of Louise Hollifield on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm with funeral to follow at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, NC. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Larry Greene officiating. Interment will be in the Burnette Cemetery near the church.
